the sixth part of our upon you series takes marcus down the highway to hell. >mad max< will be taking up the fight on the worlds dance floors, battling and swashbuckling against the marauders of the record industry. the original b1 engine of his nightrider has been highly tuned by super flu this time around and the swift frame will be catapulted down the a1 with the >home sweat home mix<. whilst marcus, our after hour glory rider continues to dominate the groove. with his indicator cranked left, he nearly overtakes himself on the b2. the road to >h-end< will definitely stay exciting! our opinion: blockbuster
one year after their >serenity< 12 inch including a soundstream remix, it is high time for some new material by cologne-berlin based duo prosumer & murat tepeli. >u & i< is the result of an extensive jam at prosumers studio. this is a trend resistent deephouse song it brimming with their unmistakable signature sound. it has sounds of dancing horses, an adorable old school and a bassline lary heard would be proud of. once again, prosumer shares vocal duties with elif biçer both telling touching stories about night clubbing and human relations. >the jam< on the flip side is - quite apparently - exactly that - a jam. it is based on the recordings for >u & i<, but also caterss for a more upbeat dancefloor. it is the more techno oriented, instrumental side of the same coin and prosumer & murat tepelis most energetic effort to date

new kid on the block jacob korn (dresden, germany yall!) convinced sometime somewhere in toronto with a hearty live set that took a route over hip hop, down tempo house and all kinds of funkiness until it peaked with the disco-house-craze >i like the sun (but not on leds)<. much to the delight of a present running back a&r. hands were shook and it took only 2 and a half years until the test pressing arrived. supplemented with the slow burning >selene< that really gets you the second time around, prevents the typical mistakes current deep house likes to make (at least, we think so) and is the sun gods sister, the a-side is good to go. flip the script to see prins thomas in a good temper, rolling out the red carpet with one of his tried and tested remixes. >i like the sun< piles up to 13 minutes of true diskomiks glory including drums that go on forever (bonus beats, yall!) and some eye-cue-markers for those of you who are deaf already. well, swell
a temporary sabbatical from gigs was taken and the band wrote material for where were you when it happened in new orleans midtown district, where their rawboned compositions resembled the katrina-pummeled surroundings. with their girlfriends with them in as close to a stableenvironment as they d been in months, they were able to tap a darker, more personal side in songs like as noise, and hunt you down, with its mournful, organ drenched air belying monotonixs typical good time charlie posturing, while fulfilling the albums need for a climactic, balladic moment. where were you when it happened? finds monotonix visiting a greater diversity of places within their sound while still retaining their minimal appeal. mostly though, where were you when it happened works up a sweat with raw rock and roll, acid guitar licks and riffs, screaming choruses and, in general, the wildness of monotonix in a way that makes for repeated album listening (and pummelling). where most bands refine their production sound as they go forward, monotonix have reverse refined themselves, playing dirtier and more energetic to capture the lightning they are known for.
reincarnations newest release is an ep from italian skillful dj and producer riccardo luchini better know ricky l. ricky is resident of the legendary house club red zone in perugia since 1990. simple & nasty is a massive deep track already tested on the dancefloor of the red zone, simple but very effective. yes week end is more old school house orientated, and lbs 5 a.m. a cosmic, dub, kickless tool. his tracks are released on prestigious and respected labels such as un restricted access, restricted tracks, ibadan, yoruba...
roxour is proud to present fresh music from r-04, a very talented mid 20 boy from downtown tokyo. for r 04 things started about 10 years ago when testing out his first syntheziser. from japanese fascination of composing and living game music soon he was fascinated by the magic of detroit techno. aside from that, he plays on the grand piano with that jazzy - and funkyness of an early stevie wonder. r-04s music is reflecting the city where he comes from. he says many tall inorganic buildings and night scene always inspire me. his first official release gazing at the moon is somewhere between jazz and techno. its a kind of tribute to the so called chu shu no meigetsu convention, the autumn time in japan, when no one can ignore the beauty of the big shiny full moon. also i composed this track meaning that we had better keep emotional leeway to enjoy the full moon no matter how busy we are. patrick alavis ace remix is turning the jazz and detroit techno rooted original into a deep roller.
stroboscopic artefacts 1st vinyl release is an incendiary 2 track ep. label founder lucy gives us a visionary blueprint for the future stroboscopic artefacts releases, etching out the soundtrack for an apocalyptic club scenario. out of the a-sides dark, pulsing beats and itchy baselines, a granular voice rises up. krishnamurtis rasping vocal cuts through, creating a colossal techno track. the result is a hybrid of the physical need to dance fusing with the cerebral. amid resonant piano samples and utopian 60s strings, a crystalline question emerges: why dont you change? in the middle of a hazy, overcrowded dance floor this peak-time guerrilla track hints at a moment of epiphany. on the b-side dub man walking, lucys dub-roots background collides with his techno identity. the heavy drum machine structure is injected with obsessive dubby baselines and intersected by high frequency distortion. the track floats, the elements never fully solidify, instead they surge forward becoming ever more urgent. lucy mixed and arranged dub man walking live using his faithful mackie ms 1202 to keep the texture warm in an old skool way
limited repress of another amsterdam house gem. originally released in 2003 on newworldaquariums label, and remixed by vince watson, which was released in 2004. now together as one.....
the om 15 year anniversary compilation is chok full of tasty treats. one of our favorites is this >the latest< by sygaire & defcon featuring capitol a. sygaire (sonar kollektiv, raw fusion) is the the moniker of roskow kretschmann, who has quite the resume of contributions to modern dance music culture. starting with his role as member of jazzanova crew, to his later offerings as kosma, forum, and integra (compost, infracom!), roskow is obviously a man on a mission to spread incredible music throughout the world. here he is with partner defcon (raw fusion, melting pot), the alias of one philipp wohlleben. as innocent as that name might sound, do not be fooled. defcon stands for defense condition 5, and dj defcon brings the heat like a missile in the night. together these two have come with what clearly translates as a respectful bow to the old skool days, presented in true double 12 inch extended mix fashion, and complete with vocals from none other than capitol a.
the third in struts inspiration information studio collaboration series brings together an intriguing pairing between one of africas great bandleaders, mulatu astatke, with the next level musicianship of the heliocentrics collective from the mighty roster of stones throw / now again. known primarily through the successful ethiopiques album series and the film soundtrack to jim jarmuschs ?broken flowers, mulatu astatke is one of ethiopias foremost musical ambassadors. his selfstyled ethio-jazz sound flourished during the swinging addisÑ era of the late 60s as he successfully fused western jazz and funk with traditional ethiopian folk melodies. the heliocentrics have become known as one of the uks foremost free-thinking collectives of musicians, inspired by a wide palette covering sun ra, james brown, david axelrod and all manner of psych, afro and eastern sounds. the collective have featured on records by madlib and dj shadow. now a fixture within the stones throw / now again roster, they forged their own genre-breaking directions in the astral analogue groove on their 2007 debut album, out there. a number of tour dates around the release and headline slots at festivals throughout 2009 have been confirmed.
hypno monster !! dj madskillz remix big with richie hawtin, luciano, joris voorn, dubfire, gregor tresher, karotte, bart skils.. with former releases on trapez, liebe detail and cadenza (with michel cleis), salvatore freda & volta are about to become big news!
for almost as long as there have been djs, there have been dj tools: bonus beats, acapellas and ambient overlays have long been the stock in trade of selectors interested in more than simple crossfades from outro to intro. but back at the beginning of 2007, luciano put a new twist on a triedand- true idea with no model no tool. the inaugural release on cadenza split composition, a sublabel of the iconic swiss imprint, no model no tool revitalized the recombinant concept, offering djs a selection of readymade miniatures that worked like sonic building blocks—oddly-shaped bits and pieces designed to be stacked and shuffled to the djs delight.
smallville records are set to release their first cd compilation featuring tracks by stl, steinhoff & hammouda with dionne, christopher rau, lowtec and many more to be cut on a limited 12inches series. with the second ep, the label from rainy city hamburg shows their preference for fresh excursions into deephouse and beyond. the dream team of contemporary soundscaping, move d and benjamin brunn, come up with a slightly moving earwig, tracky and reduced to give the dancefloor a colorful kick. smallville co-owner lawrence makes himself a classic with the bassy and chordish tune >dont forget<. he sets a tribute to deephouse music still holding his dreamy detroitish lawrence twist

proclaiming the arrival of this new series in full effect is the preacher this summers first festival anthem. take heed all ye doubting thomases this will bring you to your knees. the ominous intro gives way to heavy rock guitars and a foreboding preachers sermon whipping the crowd into a frenzy before suddenly being struck down by waves of bass and earth quaking beats so big they will bring the lame back to their feet. this is a big room track guaranteed to smash up the dance. big warm and heavy it will rock the most sinful of ravers into repentance. watch those hands reach for the sky ... hhhhallelujah!
